English name:
Dumb Cane 'Reflector'Latin name:
Dieffenbachia seguine 'Reflector'About me:
I am prized for my almost luminous leaf pattern - my smooth dark green leaves are dappled with bright green splotches that look like they're glowing, hence my moniker 'Reflector'.Useful to know:
Origin
I come from Tropical rainforests of South and Central America.
Height/Growth
I am average when it comes to growing speed but can get to 1.2m in height.
Light
I like bright indirect light best but can deal with light conditions that are low too.
Water
I like my soil to be moist during growing season and less so during late Autumn and Winter, but please don't leave me sitting in water.
Temperature
I don't like temperatures below 15 degrees C and please keep me away from draughts.
Feeding
A dash of general plant food every 4-6 weeks throughout the spring and summer please.
Grooming
My large leaves get dusty too so just give me a wipe with a wet cloth or pop me in the shower.
Care
I will shed my lower leaves as I grow so just pick off any that have dried up.I like humidity so please occasionally spray me with water.
Toxicity
I'm quite poisonous, so keep me away from kids and pets. A similar toxic product is Dumb Cane 'Tropic Snow'.
Fact
My common name Dumb Cane, comes from the temporary speechlessness that occurs after chewing my stem.
