Bay Laurel Tree Care Guide

Light

Prefers full sun to partial shade. It thrives best with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily but can tolerate some afternoon shade, especially in hotter climates.

Water

Water moderately, allowing the top inch of soil to dry out between waterings. Bay laurel prefers evenly moist soil but is somewhat drought-tolerant once established. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

Temperature

This tree prefers mild climates with temperatures between 15-25° C. It can tolerate temperatures down to -7° C, but should be protected from frost and freezing temperatures.

Feeding

Fertilise with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in the spring and mid-summer.

Grooming

Prune lightly to shape the tree and remove dead or damaged leaves. Regular pruning helps maintain a bushy, compact form and encourages new growth.

Care

Ensure well-draining soil and avoid waterlogging. Repot every 2-3 years if grown in containers, refreshing the soil and checking for healthy root growth.
