Common Fig Tree Care Guide

Light

Thrives in bright, sunny locations and should be placed in the sunniest spot available. 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily are ideal.

Water

Water moderately, allowing the top 2 cm of soil to dry out between waterings. During the growing season, keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering in the winter when the plant is dormant.

Temperature

Prefers warm climates with temperatures between 15-25°C. It can tolerate brief periods of cold, down to about -10°C, but should be protected from frost and freezing temperatures.

Feeding

Fertilise with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser during the growing season (spring through summer).

Grooming

Prune in late winter to shape the tree and remove any dead or crossing branches. Regular pruning helps maintain a manageable size and encourages better fruit production.

Care

Ensure well-draining soil and avoid waterlogging. Mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds. Repot every 2-3 years if grown in containers, providing fresh soil and adequate space for root growth.
