English name:
Jewel OrchidLatin name:
Ludisia DiscolorAbout me:
I have dark green oval shaped leaves, intricately decorated with fine white lines. When in bloom, I produce highly prized white flowers.Useful to know:
Origin
I am native to South-East Asia and China.
Height/Growth
Avoid putting me in direct sunlight as in my natural habitat I grow in shady places. Having said that I don’t like gloomy rooms either, filtered light is key.
Light
I like to be damp. Don’t let me dry out or equally leave me sitting in water. I am also partial to an occasional mist of water.
Water
I like my soil to be moist but well drained.
Temperature
I don’t like the temperature around me to be less than 10°C.
Feeding
Please feed me dilluted fertiliser once a month during the growing season.
Grooming
Remove my flowers as they fade. If you would prefer me to grow more foliage, then pluck out my flower spikes as they start to shoot and I will redirect my energy to leaf production.
Care
Although I can last in low humidity, I'll grow better in a humid environment so keep me somewhere warm and mist my leaves with a spray bottle.
Toxicity
Good news, I'm not toxic.
Fact
Unusually, I am the only species in my genus. Click here to buy another beutiful indoor plant - Mrs Iceton Croton.
