But nailing your plant styling requires some thought and skills. Here, we go through some essential designing tips and important factors to consider before you dive into plant land. First And Most Important: Assess Your Environment
Whilst this may seem like an obvious one, you’d be surprised how many jump in headfirst when they start their plant styling journey! As tempting as it may be to buy a truckload of plants and fill up every inch of your house with lush greenery, you first need to assess the environment of each room. You might also want to assess your lifestyle habits and think about how much attention you’ll be able to give your new green babies.
First, check each room you’ll be styling. When decorating with plants indoors, you need to assess the humidity, ventilation, light intensity and check for any drafts. Check whether the windows are south-facing or north-facing and consider whether your room has extreme temperature fluctuations.
Plant Styling to Suit Your Schedule and Lifestyle
Secondly, you want to consider how often you’ll be able to maintain your plant. What’s your daily schedule like, will you have time to care for each plant’s needs? Do you frequently work away from home? Create Depth with Multiple Plants
Playing around with a variety of plants is a great way to add visual interest to your space. Try to mix and match different heights, shapes, textures and styles, and cluster them together in the same corner. You can even place some plants on a stall to create an eye-catching display or stagger them up a ladder. You can’t really go wrong with plant styling, but it’s best to follow these general guidelines:
Rule of thumb: When plant styling with different varieties, you want to try and find a commonality. For example, using plants with a similar colour or choosing them for their dense or spread leaves. That’ll help create a little bit of formality and cohesiveness when decorating with plants indoors.

If you’re plant styling for a darker interior environment, perhaps a Monstera or a vibrant Golden Pothos will illuminate your space. Plus, these species are super easy to care for and create a very striking display!
However, looking after a larger plant can seem like a daunting task. If you’re a total plant styling newbie, why not test your skills with a young larger plant? That way, you can tend to its needs whilst it’s small and manageable, so when it starts getting larger it won’t seem like such a big task.
Use Hanging Plants to Utilise Space
Lack space but still want an abundance of plants? When it comes to city living, not all of us have a great deal of space. Incorporate this plant styling tip and you’ll be able to make the most out of your space, as well as incorporate more stunning greenery and beautify your homes!
One snazzy way to hang your plants is first to screw in two hooks (use white-coated ones to make them less visible) and hang two cords from them. For the rail itself, just slip a painted or wooden pole in between and you’re done. For a more rustic and earthy design, go foraging and find yourself a large sturdy branch. Give it a buff with some sandpaper and you’re done! This can be a great look to add a bit of lush foliage to both modern and rustic interiors.

Install a Floating Shelf
Floating shelves is another great plant styling method to utilise space. It frees up space around you, plus it gives you the ability to cluster lots of plants in one condensed area. Floating shelves are also fabulous for combining lots of different plants, which can make some striking displays!
Try clustering some plants that cascade down and others that grow in a shrubbier manner. Clustering some daintier plants with some textured wavy plants can be an awesome way to add fun to your space! Choosing the Right Pot
Pot choosing can be a bit of a minefield. There are so many options, it can be hard to choose the right one for you. First, ask yourself what design you’re going for. Is your house minimal and modern, or do you love eclectic styles?
For a more modern design, go for pots that have straight sides and have a simple design. Even square-shaped planters complement modern spaces excellently.
